Top 5 saddest movies (that I've seen) (In order of sadness):

1. Grave of the Fireflies

2. Schindler's List

3. The Shawshank Redemption

4. The Green Mile

5. Changling

I'd put Toy Story 3 but I cried tears of happiness for that movie, so it's void of the list.

I never did quite get over The Green Mile. I watched large chunks of it with my brother when I was 8 (He was about 11 or 12, so why he wanted to watch it was beyond me.) and he played some of the more memorable scenes, including Del's execution (I wasn't scared by that, although I didn't yet get just how painful that had to have been.) and jsut about everything including John Coffey.

I loved Coffey, and all of his scenes cemented just how much good he did for the world, particularly when he used that weird miracle power ("Took it back").
One scene that stuck out was when he healed the warden's sick wife, and how she tells him that she saw him in her dream, and that they were both lost in the dark, but found each other. At age 8, I couldn't help but think that everything was going to be alright, and that somehow, they'd clear John's name.

I was practically catatonic for a little while.

Teachers will indeed butcher movies for you - this goes for any other media.
This is because they are not there to get you to like movies, books, poetry or whatever.
They are there to make an acceptable number of people pass their exams.
That is all.

It's an animated family comedy film, released by Sony Pictures Animation, the same company who produced Monster House and Cloud with a chance of Meatballs. The only worries I have is , you can usually tell what kind of movie it will be by the voice actors. Adam Sandler and David Spade are the two major stars listed ...

Here's more of the plot that was just released- Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teen-aged daughter. 21 September 2012 (USA).

In English class, we listened- in the dark- in complete silence- to the climactic speech in A Time to Kill. It was very moving. As soon as the actor delivered the final line- 'now imagine she's white'- I giggled. Loud. And everyone looked at me. No wonder my teacher didn't like me.
I laughed not because racism is funny, but because it's a total headshot moment. The same thing happened when we read The Lottery, that short story with the village and slips of paper. It's hard to understand irony in middle school.

Not that I want to destroy A Time to Kill, since I loved it, but it doesn't make sense.

The crime in the movie was that the father took a gun and shot people who raped his daughter. Sure, it was sad, and they probably deserved it, but the two guys were probably going to get arrested for their crime. The father didn't even wait for the verdict and shot the two guys in the middle of the courthouse. He even shot the leg of a deputy, and he needed to get it amputated.

The father's lawyer claims it was because of temporary insanity. He only uses it once, and doesn't prove it. The claim is nowhere in the closing statement. In fact, the closing statement is to make everyone look at this in the father's shoes, to see what you would've done if it had been their daughter.

Only thing is, court is for deciding if someone is guilty of a crime or not, and the jury decides that by the amount of evidence. It's not used for deciding if the motive for a crime was good or bad.

The father killed the two guys and shot the deputy. He openly admits it, and a courtroom full of witnesses can testify.

The end of the movie should've been that the father gets arrested for double homicide and attempted murder against a deputy.

Instead, he got off because everyone saw that the father's part of the story was really sad, and, as an excuse, they said he was temporarily insane, and everything is fine again.

The justice system doesn't work that way

Even going by the film's logic is stupid, because everyone seems to think that it's ok that the deputy got shot, as long as the rapists got killed.

Grave of the Fireflies is a much better watch when ones older and able to grasp meaning and concept better. I'm shocked the movie was bundled with My Neighbor Totoro, two totally different themes and spectrum of emotions!

I need to watch Kiki's delivery service again, I've been meaning too for a while.

@Rare, it's bundled with My Neighbor Totoro because you're meant to watch that one after Grave of the Fireflies. Otherwise you end up way too depressed the whole day without anything lighthearted to break it even.
