Arcade scrambled through the door, allowing me to slam and bolt it shut. We had been coming back from the bunker that Arcade’s parents’ old Enclave buddies were hiding out in when we came across a pack of cazadores. “Just give me a Nuka-Cola.” I answered, getting up to save us the risk of him tossing me the bottle and missing, leading to shattered glass in a puddle of carbonated goodness. “So those guys were all part of the group that the NCR got rid of, like, 30 years ago?” I asked, realizing that while I knew we certainly had gotten some useful people on our side, I still didn’t know just why exactly they had been so useful.
“They were all a part of it, yes, but it’s not like they were prejudiced and genocidal like the higher ups, or half the other people who have a large amount of power in the Wasteland. They were just soldiers doing their jobs. Of course, that’s a poor excuse when you’re facing the people who you were previously trying to assist in the extermination of, however indirectly you may have been doing so. Why do you think I put on the façade of being a boring person rather than admitting that I’m a boring person who’s the son of a man who, by all accounts, was a fugitive for the last years of his life? They’d just find a way to blame me too.”
“Well jeez man, that’s gotta suck. How do you cope with the stress of knowing that the wrong word at the wrong time could get you put in a hole, alive if you’re lucky?”
“Like I said, I put on the façade of being a boring person. If people don’t ask too many questions, they can’t get to know me. Problem solved.”

“I’ve had lovers in the past.”
“So the break-ups must be painful.”
“I said lovers, not romances.”
“There’s a difference?”
“One’s a fling, and the other’s a thing.”
