A certain article on Cracked has got me into looking at Space images. It's pretty humbling to know after all that goes down you are still just floating space debris. Post real life images and facts about SPAAAACE.

This is gonna be a fun thread.

I read somewhere that all those space images are digitally colourised and that just ruined space for me forever.

It's because you wouldn't be able to see it otherwise. Imagine staring up into the sky and seeing just white lights of stars and black. Now imagine if you could see all the wavelengths and debris the normal human eye can't normally see.

I would never leave the house again.

I know this isn't really space related but it's pretty significant science: they found the Higgs Boson

The results are still preliminary, but they have found a new particle where they expected the Higgs to be. The exact properties of this particle are still being looked at to confirm that they too match up with what was expected.

From the source article:
The discovery of a particle consistent with the Higgs boson opens the way to more detailed studies, requiring larger statistics, which will pin down the new particle’s properties, and is likely to shed light on other mysteries of our universe.

Those are very interesting photos.
How can they say there's no life on Mars when there is clearly ordered tracks and some sort of robot machine?

I am sick of being lied to by the science community.
This is the final straw.

Sorry for the necro, but I have good reason to revive this. Today, a former NASA engineer who actually drove Spirit for about six months came to our school and talked about the current rovers and such. The topic of a manned mission to Mars came up, and so I asked him who would get there first: government organizations like NASA or companies like SpaceX? His response: "I don't really know."

And so, let us now discuss the implications of corporate space travel, especially with the docking of the SpaceX Falcon and the ISS coming up here shortly.

During out university's opening ceremony, the Atlantis crew and the man in charge of NASA were all there in honor of the fact that 20 years ago, the first Belgian astronaut ever went into space. They did a short Q&A with the NASA boss and the astronaut, talked about Curiosity and possible plans for manned missions to Mars. So inspiring, I would have totally switched to astrophysics if I was better at math.

I sucked at math in school, but only because I never showed my work. I do it in my head, damnit, why do I need to show you how to do it? I GOT THE RIGHT ANSWER!

Astrophysics is most interesting science.

I don't think that those planets are horrifying. They're just places that we wouldn't be able to live in, unless significant accommodations were made.

I see them as terrifying if only because they are so different. They're also incredible awe-inspiring and beautiful. I was thinking lately how human curiosity has allowed us to examine not only our own planet but we have enough inquiringness and appreciation to adventure and question other planets as well, it's pretty amazing to think about.
