All the death talk in the video games thread prompted me to find my favorite quote about it.

For background, the monk Tensing and his disciple Dil Bahadur are traveling throught the Himalayas, occasionally having to leap across ice chasms hundreds of feet deep. Tensing jumps across them with grace and poise, while Dil Bahadur always hesitates before jumping.
