I don't really understand why sex is hailed as this transcendant thing: like it is the be all and end-all of life and the highlight of a relationship. If someone is a virgin then they are declared a loser or strange or whatever. Still, as a virgin maybe I'm missing something.

Well, Jonny, in these kind of times, when sex is absolutely everywhere, everyone wants to get some action. If you're a virgin, peoples look at you and think you must suck at getting girls to like you, therefore you're not having sex like all of them, and therefore you're an outcast and a loser. What's worst is that they'll keep on thinking that, even if it's not true, simply because it's simpler and more fun.

To make a long story short, it's a stupid stereotype, like saying girls can't drive, that you're a geek if you have glasses or that most robbers are black.

The fact that I *may* be classed as a geek and I coincidentally wear glasses probably does not help.

Well its not just stereotypes, having many partners is a sign of virility. Admitted or not signs of high virility is valued and applauded in society.

I do have a possible reason that, while it doesn't excuse it in modern society, it gives the reason some logic. In tribal societies, you would want men to spread their genes throughout every woman they could. For women, who can only bear one seed at a time, it is fruitless for them to engage in seedsprouting with many men, when they can only sprout one seed at a time. So until you can bear another seed, GET BACK TO GATHERING BERRIES.

Agreed, but some people have different views on sex I guess.

And , along with that, some people see love making and sex as two things. I think a quote from one of my mates was "but, it's just purely sexual", as in there's not emotional input. I think sex without emotion would just be dull!
