THAT'S NOT MY NAME. It's a nice name though. I just find it odd the sort of names people could associate with me. If I said I was Skye or Harriet or Ziggy or Chris, would people believe me?

TTBM: I turn MTV on for 5 minutes and this happens

TTBM: Without my knowledge, my brother has been using my debit card, primarily to buy cigarettes. I had around $200 in my bank account last time I checked, and maybe spent around $20 myself.
Now it's down to $70.

Had he asked me, I would have just given him some cash.

Not trying to blame you, because seriously, that sucks. Just wondering why

I have no idea, but I guess he's seen me punch it in as my phone's unlock code and noticed that it was similar to the four numbers we use for things like the garage door code. I chose it as my PIN under the assumption that no one outside of my family would be able to guess it and that no one in my family would steal from me.

Basically, I was stupid enough to think that just because someone was in my family meant that they would never ever steal from me. Even though he has taken cash from me without permission before.

Considering that, and the fact I hardly ever use my card or even check on my account, I kind of had it coming.

He wouldn't have to know the pin if the cash register accepts your debit as a credit transaction. He would still sign but all he would have to do is just scribble off on the receipt saying he was you.

Either way your brother has committed fraud against you on top of being a doucebag. I can only recommend 2 things for you.

1. secure your card. You need to do what it takes even if you have to get a small safe for your card or get a wallet and keep it with you at all times. I learned a hard lesson that no onecan be trusted.

2 Get your money back from your brother. Report him to your card issuer if you have to, get a transcript of all recent purchases made on your card and go through and line out what he bought and have him pay you back. That may be impossible given he has resorted to stealing from you to begin with but you need to take action.

I've already tallied it up, he owes me a little over $100. He has no job though, and, considering he was stealing from me, no money saved up for himself, so it could be a while before he has a chance to even start paying me back.

Whenever you feel bad about trusting your siblings with your money, remember that your old pal Charles has a sister that still owes him nearly 4000 bucks

i check the forum at least once a day, but i don't want to spam so i don't post every time i'm on.

Textbooks need to stop being so damn expensive.

TTBM: I'm pretty sure my brother has still been stealing money from me. I've been careless the past few weeks and have been keeping all my money in my coat pocket again.

steal something of his that he uses everyday. that way he'll miss it. when he asks you about it, casually mention that you've also noticed that your money is missing, and that someone in the house is stealing things.
if he's smart he won't steal your money again, he may even apologize to get his thing back.

You haven't been careless, Dew, you shouldn't have to worry about your own money around your family?
And that's getting pretty serious too, have you told your parents? I'm sure they'd support you. I know you don't want to cause trouble for your brother, but he can't just do that.

My folks know, but there's not much they can do other than force him to get a job, and even that's taking a while considering it's been a month since the first incident.
