We had a couple Borders around here; they both had a very good selection. They were proper stores. I read that they went bankrupt last year.

Around here, the largest chain bookstore is Barnes and Noble's, they only have one location, but it's a good place to find books. There's also a big Hasting's with a good music collection as well as a good-sized book and video game section, but I much prefer the local used bookstores. My favorite is cavernous, ancient, and crammed with books. There's one I never go in because my dad won't take me(it's got a porn section in the back), and there's one I've never been to because it's out-of-the-way.

The problem I have with bookshops is that, as a rule, I just don't want to pay £8 for a book regardless of how long it'll take to read or how much I'll enjoy it. I'm a pretty fast reader.

That's me, too. I realy hate paying for things that will only entertain me once. It's why I don't buy DVDs, and very rarely buy Non-Sandbox video games.

Thank you!

I totally read books more than once. I also just like having my books in book form. I can't focus as well when reading on a screen.

I love having actual books. After I read them, they go on my shelves. Then later I will read them again.
It's a delicious cycle.

Sure, I guess. But why would you want to do that?

Literally the only thing books have going for them is their story. Once you know the story, there's no point in reading it again.

I might know the broad strokes, but I like the details. There's a difference between reading the book and getting immersed in the story and just recalling who wins and who dies.

I just immerse myself in it the first time.

If I'm enjoying a story or reading a biography I tend to skim over some of the passages to see what's going to happen. I like to go back and read 'em later, and maybe giggle some at any turns-of-phrase I've missed.

Adams famously created The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which he began as just a radio play, then was adapted into a TV miniseries, then into a book series, then the third book was adapted into another radio series, there was a movie in there somewhere, a text based adventure game appeared at some point, a short story muddled through somewhere, and it all became a big mess which eventually was set “straight, or at least firmly crooked” in his The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a collection of the “five book trilogy,” as he called it.

Hows that for a summary of Adams?

It doesn't cover any of the books' content, but it's a good summary of what it is, at least in the physical plane.

I'd say, except the part about 'a big mess' leaves a bit to be desired.
