Hallo guys,

Sorry for not posting much lately, final year of Uni is rather busy! I do pop by and read things though, so you're all being observed

Anyhow, basically, I'm being bugged for my parents as to what they can buy me for Christmas, but I'm one of those awkward people who never asks for things. However, they've said I'm too old to just randomly buy stuff for now.

Sooooo, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for quirky/weird/interesting but affordable gifts and gadgets that I could ask them to get me? I'm thinking some kind of gadgety things I can play with, or something?

Also, doubles up as a thread on which we could share our Christmas wishlists!

Anyhow, hope you're all good, suggestions would be greatly received!

Well, here's my Christmas list.

Games (PlayStation 3)
Ratchet and Clank: Q-Force
Sorcery

Music
Train: California 37
The Noisettes: Contact

Books
Interesting Times (by Terry Pratchett)

Model Railway
Edward the Blue Engine
Norman (Buy me from Hattons)

My brother is also getting my the first two Assassin's Creed titles, and I might buy myself Batman Arkham City. We'll see.

In terms of quirky gifts for yourself...why don't you have a look on a website like Play.com or Firebox? They have a nice range of unusual things, but Firebox charges delivery, so keep that in mind.

Love how 'Edward the Blue Engine' is on there! Do you have the others? Totally used to have Hornby when I was a kid!

I've had a go on one of these and they are crazily addicting.

Heh, yeah. We started building a model railway last year and I just had to have the Thomas team on there.

So far we've got Thomas, Henry, James, Percy, Duck, Oliver and Toby. Going to get Gordon for my birthday if all goes well.

In case you're wondering, Norman is a little tank engine (not a Thomas character) who lives at the Embsay and Bolton Abbey railway. It's pretty close to where I live, so on the list it went.

You could ask that, instead of a present, your parents donate to a charity to help children less fortunate. []

That's beautiful! I demand pictures of your set up! Do you have Annie and Clarabell as well? And do you secretly hum the Thomas The Tank Engine theme tune as you play with it?

Haha no. Kids suck, remember?

Im getting money for Christmas. No one sends me gifts anymore. I suppose it sort of defeats the purpose, honestly, but it does make for less akward gift-hating.

"Oh, you got me... A... knitting set.... Thanks...!"

I'm not sure we're having Christmas this year, because I'm the youngest and now that I'm 16 I guess Christmas isn't special for me any more? This is hard for me. Additionally we are all very poor and depressed over here so who are we kidding? Christmas joy is not something that will happen in all likelihood.
As for gifts, I usually ask people for things like books or bow rosin or candles. Jewelry or something is good, and for acquaintances I always get candy or small stuffed animals and candy. It brightens their day at least. Things like swanky water bottles or posters are generally good to ask for as well.

JT, that's not a bad idea. I do regularly do quite a bit for charity, I have recently run a half marathon, walked around dressed as a giant boobie and played in several charity football matches. We don't spend a lot on each other, it's more about having a good time with family. Only my brother is actually a devoted Christian, so the holiday means nothing more to me than having a good time with family.

Most things these days are overpriced for what they are, and I guess that's why my parents are asking me what I'd like instead of buying random stuff. I appreciate their honesty, but I never WANT stuff as such, so it's difficult to come up with a few things I'd like!

And damn Zebra, I got you a knitting set for the secret Santa! Good thing I kept the receipt

I asked for a better internet connection for my birthday/Christmas.
I'm not sure if that's sad or not.

I thought about getting Annie and Clarabel, but here's the problem I have. In the books they look like this:

The Christmas List 250px-ThomasandtheGuardRS2

But the Hornby models look like this.

The Christmas List R9087_2

So instead I got some of these. It's a better representation of the shape.

The Christmas List R024u_1

I don't hum the Thomas theme, but I do hum the Henry theme.

I'm determined to take some pictures this weekend to show you.

Finally, here's a picture of Norman in case you were curious.

In the case of the actual Annie and Clarabel they're just round the other side, don't worry xD

How did this thread turn into a model railway showcase

And I want it as a gift, too.
