Me - Whales are not fish.

Teacher- for the sake of the example, you have to pretend they do.

Me - You want me to pretend that whales, the largest mammals of the water, have scales, lay eggs, and have eyes at the sides of their faces, and are ALSO cold blooded.

Teacher - Yes, I will show you why in a second.

Me - But this argument isn't even worth arguing because it's improbable! It's a waste of time!

Teacher - Ahh, but look, if it WERE true, this would be an deductive argument.

Me - So why don't you just use an argument that can be proven true?

Teacher - FINE. Alligators have long snouts.

Me - Alligators have short snouts.

It would be better if he used better examples. Basically, deductive arguments are ones formed from reason and looking at the world around you.

Inductive arguments, are, I think, based on your past experience. Such as "my brakes have worked all 99 times in the past so they will work today!".

Inductive arguments are those in which the conclusion might not be true based on your reasonings, I think.

I'm sure what he was trying to do was show how an argument can be inductive AND deductive, but the way he was explaining was just silly and confusing. At the end, even he had no idea where he was going with his examples.

Conductive arguments: Those which are bullshit but pass through every conversation until they hit someone with a brain who grounds them by disproving them.
