TTBM: Wanted to go do karate since there are cheaper rates for students at our university, turns out they were more interested in the cheap training location they get in exchange for tolerating some students into their group than in actually teaching things. We were ignored for about a half hour and everything was in French. Uncomfortable and annoyed, we just left having done nothing.

TTBM: When I overhear people discussing in all seriousness that women cannot sexually assault men, because if the man gets an erection, then that must mean he wants it.

TTBM: Call Me Maybe came on the radio thingy at my orthodontist appt, and one of the ladies explained the music video to me. She said Carly Rae spends the whole time telling this dude to call her, and at the end he gives his number to this other dude "because he's a faggot".
I was shocked and a little disgusted. What is worse? I had to laugh with her at that, because I couldn't well tell her off. She's a perfectly nice middle-thirties woman who I'd never had a problem with before, and her offensive terminology makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

I know that feel all too well. There are so many otherwise decent peers of mine who casually throw slurs, not just in an insulting fashion, but in a way deliberately meant to imply that being gay or whatever is a bad thing.

Sigh. If you're going to attack Obama, attack him on Guantanamo or the NDAA. Don't attack him on something as pointless as skin colour. The Civil War was a while ago, guys.

I think Obama has taught us two things. One, to a degree we have moved past racism in society (emphasis on "to a degree".) Secondly, it's that the minorities in society are not necessarily any better or worse than the rest of us. There's no magic characteristic that will completely determine who someone is meant to be.
