Out of curiosity, I clicked on the LGBTQ and Risque tabs on the Comixology app. It's very telling who the target audience is in each case: the former is filled with effeminate, androgynous pretty boys and the latter with scantily clad women with impossibly thin waists. A little variety, for God's sake.

Oh yeah, erotic comics could really do with a little more originality. A couple paysites- Slipshine and Filthy Figments(the latter is for women mostly)- do a pretty good job of catering to a wide selection of tastes. There are also some independent comics out there(one called Starfighter is written by HamletMachine, I think you would muchly enjoy it) that are really very good, like wow. Then comics like Menage a 3 are just kind of your normal smut, with a lot of sitcom humor thrown in.
As for comics about LGBTQ relationships, rather than just erotic/sexy comics, there are quite a few good ones. I like Go Get A Roomie(which can be NSFW at times, but not really) and Erika Moen's body of work. Oh and Jess Fink has some good short comics, mostly hetero or lesbian tho.

Menage a 3 straight up pisses me off. It's such blatant wish fulfillment bullshit.

It makes me laugh, sometimes! But to be honest the writing is really not very good, and the characters are all pretty hackneyed, as you've pointed out. The art is nothing very special.
I think it's pretty good at making fun of itself, though. How could it not, the way it panders?
