Yesterday, my town had the Paradie of 1000 Flags. It comoraties the 9/11 weekend. The speakers after the paraide where powerful, on of which was a State Assbly woman. My town is small, and she called us the most patriotic town she's ever been to. There where times when I came close to tears during the spechs and one time when I acctually cried.
Al-Quada better morn this day too, it was te day they sealed their fate and the fate of other torrest oganizations. The USA is going to grind them to dust under her heels.

When I was young, I spent my Pre-school years in New York. We had a flat in Battery Park, and walked past the Twin Towers most days whilst going to Central Park, the Zoo, or wherever else we could go.
There's something about New York that I hold close to me.

I still recall that morning....

It was third period study hall, and someone turned on the television at the back of the room (used for the morning announcements and whenever a tv is necessary for lessons). The news was showing footage of the towers (I can't recall whether the second plane had hit or not, but since it was third period it may have been after that point). I do remember, though, thinking at first that it was just an accident caused by pilot error. Wasn't till the second plane hit, I think, that everyone realized this was an attack.

Not much else got done that day in school. []

I remember that day too. I was home at the time because due to some medical reason, and I woke up after the second plane hit. Mom and dad both thought the first one was some accident until the second plane hit, which they watched crash live.

i can remember almost every detail of that day when it happened. I will spare you all the details. It feels weird it all happened 10 years ago. I can remember it like yesterday.

I really can't touch this subject because I have no recollection of anything pre-9/11. To me, airport security has never changed, Bin Laden has always been the boogeyman, the New York skyline has always looked like that, and we've always been at war. It makes it hard to relate to such a devastating tragedy, and I feel like I can't empathize with anything surrounding that horrible attack.

Well, you know there are now kids ten years old who are just by cause of youth too young to know anything different. I guess you're not really cognizant of world events at seven, either. []

I have to admit too that I laught at the sigh of the WTC being hit by two plane. It was so cool for me. But now I feel terrible for that.

Hey guys keep the negs to a low in this thread. This happened ten years ago, please keep that in mind when someone says they have no memory or feelings towards the event at the time.

At the time of the attack, I didn't care at all. I was eleven, didn't have any concept of what national security and terrorism was (No one in my school did until after the attacks), and I was more annoyed than sad over the tragedy. Everything at school was lesson-planned around the attack and I just wanted to get back to learning science and other things.

I was 9 when the attacks happened so my recollection is also shaky. Hence my lack of commenting until now.

I remember being too young and innocent to realize what was going on. For some reason, on that day, I had no school or didn't go to it, and I was watching TV in the living room when it happened. I had no idea what was going on, and I thought it was a movie or something. I found it odd that this ''movie'' was playing on so many channels, and was even annoyed by it. I remember my mom finding out about this on the computer and freaking out.

It was only until later that I realized that it was two real planes who crashed into two real buildings, killing real people.

I was 10 and I can't really recall much of it. My brain tells me it was a Wednesday (we only half have a day of school then, which is why I thought I remembered the next part) and I sat with my family watching CNN from the moment I got home. I'm almost positive I got home at noon, but I'm pretty sure even the time frame of the attacks will prove me wrong there.

A quick check on my computer's calendar says it was a Tuesday, so there's the first part of my memory flawed.

I do remember that we were constantly switching between news channels every time there was a recap of stuff we'd already heard. I was only vaguely aware of the implications the attack had. Being 10, I just saw a building being destroyed. I never thought about the people trapped inside. I, naively, assumed they were all evacuated and didn't really give it a second thought.

The thing that I do notice now though, is how much respect firemen get over there. My dad and brother both being one, I can tell you that this isn't the case over here, at all. People here tend to be very neutral about them and they hardly ever hear the description of "hero", which seems to happen a lot more often in the US (and not just about the NY ones either).

Oh yes, we love our Firemen with a passion. We tend to feel neutral towards our law enforcement, though.

Maybe it's because firemen go into burning buildings and save cats, while with policemen there's a chance people will be arrested and/or shot at. While still doing the job of protecting people, of course.

I can't really say much about what I remember. Just a few notable my mom and I in the car, and that my mom called my brother at home, asking what he was seeing on television, and when we finally got home, I remember seeing the towers burn.
During the aftermath, I remember making jokes about the whole thing, and, considering I was six at the time, it surprises me just how big of an asshole I could be at that age.

What just hit me about a minute ago when thinking up what I remembered was hearing a woman on the car radio. She sounded like she was on the verge of tears, saying that "people were jumping." At first I thought that she meant that she was in one of the lower floors of the building and when the planes hit, she, and everyone else, jumped from the force and the shock. Just a few minutes ago, it finally hit me that she was talking about the people who decided to throw themselves out of the windows rather than end up suffocating, burning, or being crushed.
I'm fucking clueless.

JT, I think it's you, me and samiam that are the oldest on here. I also agree with Rare; there are people here that simply will not remember a time before the War on Terror. There are only a few of us that were around during the Cold War. My only recollection of the wars in the Balkans was that someone in my class was from Bosnia. There are those out there in this world that literally cannot remember a time pre-9/11, and while we can never go back to that time, it falls to us to try to make a future where we can move forward.

It was a Wednesday here. Woke up when my uncle came in to tell my cousin. Of course, with the timezones and all, it was all over by the time we all woke up. I went to school and we had the radio on at the front of English class.

i was 17 at the time. i was at work and the whole situation was surreal. everyone at work was watching the TV all the while customers were coming in oblivious to what was happening. My mom called to just to tell me what happened but I knew already.

I was nine, had just come inside from playing soccer, didn't really know what was going on except I was being forced to watch the news for some reason.

I remember being really pissed off about my teacher making us cross out the Twin Towers in a list of tall buildings in one of schoolbooks a day or two afterwards though.

As for airport security and whatnot... Well, yeah, it was always like that for me; they didn't really trust people flying over and back between Britain and Ireland all the time.

For the third time since 2001, 9/11 occurs on a Tuesday (the other was in 2007). []
