Well, I think it makes sense. If you're going to be having sex with lots of people you'd want to make it as safe as possible.

meh, abstinence is only as safe as unprotected sex (if no other precautions are taken), depending on the way you look at it...

That struck me as an incredibly stupid response to the question. I mean, if it's a given that people are going to have sex, simply telling them not to do it is hardly going to make a difference.

It's commonly taught in sex ed classes, at least in Ireland.

Frequently, no expansion on this is given until you're in the last or second last year of secondary school - in which case you know already and you may well be over the age of consent (17, here).

EDIT: I should also point out that yeah, telling people - especially teenagers who are already pissed off at you for teaching them prayers and hymns in Irish - not to do something is about the greatest way to get them to never stop at all ever.

Personally, I believe sex should only happen after marriage. There's less chance that the other will run off after doing it, and there's also would be a lot less teen parents and stuff.

And yes, I know that this argument can be taken down by "CONDOMS, CONDOMS EVERYWHERE." But, quite frankly, condoms are great if you don't want kids or to protect yourself from diseases, but there's so many people out there who immediately associate condoms as "problem free sex forever!" and then they go have sex with a bunch of drunken girls and eventually they get too drunk themselves and forget to put it or it breaks or it was expired or whatever, and then they get a kid, and then they say "it's not mine because if I say that, I can continue having sex with a bunch of people while this poor girl raises her kid on her own because fuck responsibilities" and it all ends up on the Maury show and those douchebags become the people I despise above all.

That, and because, personally, I'd prefer dating and marrying a cute virgin rather than some girl who will compare my sexuality with the other guys she had sex with.

No sex before marriage/except in a committed relationship/[certain reasonable conditions] is a very valid belief, but it's a personal thing.

Personally I'm on the commited relationship side of it, but really that's irrelvant, because an educator not telling kids who are most likely going to have sex how to best protect themselves is one of the things that leads to accidental kids.

Guess who is one of the kids born because some people didn't know how to shot contraception?

If we could trust people to be smart, "disregard sex until x age then ask me" would be great - but we can't.

EDIT: I should point out, I don't mean that we should just tell 10 year olds this sort of thing.

Myself, I don't give one single fuck about marriage. I mean, it's ok if other people do, especially if it's a religious thing, but it's just not for me.


If I love someone, why do I have to get the pope, or the government to make it offical? It's offical when I say "I love you."


As for the sex thing, it all comes down to "Do you want to take the risk?"

I think it should be fine for anyone to have sex with whoever the hell they want, as long as both parties understand what that implies, and agree. (I.E. No sex with dead people, animals, young children, retarded people, etc.)

"Right, honey, let's write down a sex charter. No cheating on Sundays and no sex with animals unless you're wearing a condom. Anything you want to add?"
