I got totally put off those "grittier" tv series because of Lost. I watched the first season and when that ended with more questions than answers (and the anticipation of even more questions) I just decided that they would all be shit. I subsequently never watched Prison Break, Heroes,... because they all felt like cashing in on whatever Lost was supposed to be. I get the same vibe from the Walking Dead now.

I still like Game of Thrones because it's based on the best thing I ever read, but they're going through the story so damn fast it's starting to bother me. They have plenty of material to spread stuff out more, but they seem desperate to get to the end of Dance before the next books are even published.

I really, really hope that they don't cram the two major events they're leading up to into this one season. That would totally mess up the impact of them.

I watched the SyFy version of Alice in Wonderland. Having the Mad Hatter as some young cockney guy was a terrible idea.

I'm so lost on what's going on. Maybe I should retry the books and than rewatch?

I'm not surprised, Syfy has slowly become terrible.

I would definitely recommend reading the books before watching the show. Having all the background and knowing what's going on in everyone's heads really adds a lot to many of the scenes. There are subtleties that aren't apparent to people who just have the story from the show, I've found. Because there are so many characters, with new ones being introduced regularly, the show doesn't have time to give any more background than some vague references and family ties. (I doubt many viewers can distinguish between Edmure and Brynden Tully, for instance, and do people even know/remember who Rickon is?)

The backstory is what makes the books so amazing to me. There's this massive history that you piece together from fragments during the read that gives everyone in Westeros reasons for acting the way they do. It's just so much more immersive when you know about why Jaime is 'Kingslayer' (and how despised he is for it), why Davos Seaworth is so honorbound to Stannis, Robert's rebellion, all of the Targaryens, Arya's fantastic character evolution throughout the series,...

They may get complicated at times, because there's so much going on, but with the way it's written its clear enough so I wasn't much bothered by that. I've read them two times already, and will likely read them a third time when the next installment gets a proper release date.

Doctor Who was pretty underwhelming tonight, especially considering it was penned by Neil Gaiman. To be honest I don't think I'll be watching it beyond the 50th anniversary.

Alright Gorgro, I will try it that way and give it another shot.

@Jonny - I always had this feeling that Doctor Who was finally running its course. At least it'll always be iconic, even when it eventually ends.

I must admit I'll be interested to see just how long the series could go on for. I'd almost like to see the thing rebooted and it go in a slightly darker, more mature direction: the sort of thing we saw in episodes like The Last of the Time Lords with the spheres. Or failing that, bring back Torchwood. The good Torchwood.

The current series of TMNT is actually really good. I think it balances the two elements- action and comedy- that a premise like TMNT suggests. Not to mention there's an okay story ticking away in the background, and cameos from the original 80s cartoon on the horizon.

Castle is a really good show guys
I'd recommend it if you're into fun crime dramas, plus it has Nathan Fillion.

See I've heard really good things about Curb Your Enthusiasm, but I know next to nothing about it. What is it even about? Wikipedia tells me it's like Seinfeld, sort of, with maybe some Larry Sanders Show thrown in. The sort of thing my father would be interested in.

Crime dramas! I will watch Castle then, I love crime dramas(and Nathan Fillion, yes). Do you guys have favorites? I really enjoy NCIS, and there's this one show about these Torontonian elite police people that is called Flashpoint, and if you enjoy tense situations and drama, it is the show for you.

Actually I think it making me mad was what made me like it so much.

Off the top of my head;

Intense Crime
The Borgias (Not a traditional crime drama)
Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Criminal Minds
Law and Order
Law and Order Special Victims Unit

Crime Drama with Humor
Pushing Daisies (super quirky)
Castle
The Mentalist
Psych

I'm certain I'm missing some ahh
I use to like Bones (that would fall under Crime with humor) but it's so trash lately.
