I loved how accurate the portrayal of the raid was, everything was in near real time!

I like the torture parts. I thought it was indicative of how America actually does business.

The issue people have with it is that apparently the film insinuates torture was an integral part of finding Bin Laden.

It did pretty much that, yeah. Is that not the case in real life? I don't know. But it's not a documentary, although it's pretty damn accurate in some parts, as Sarcasmic said.
Antiterrorism is an ugly business. The detainee program portrayed in the film helps show this.

No, torture is widely held to be ineffective in extracting information from people. And I think the line between fact and fiction is supposedly blurred: the director has said something like "the film is made in a documentary style."

There's been a lot said about the film and I can't really be bothered repeating it, but I think a lot of the critical acclaim comes from it being a solid film AND one that conforms to your worldview. It satisfies something in your psyche: it presents you with an enemy and then it utterly destroys it. The way in which it destroys that enemy is one that makes me a bit uneasy.

I didn't feel that way about it. The whole time I watched it I was thinking of politics rather than freedom-hating radicals. The main character is not portrayed as a savior of America, she simply has a very personal connection to Al-Qaeda that comes from working to bring them down after so many years. I certainly didn't find it particularly manipulative in the way of 'patriotism', because it's about one person's efforts and not a nation's. My enemies were not America's enemies were not her enemies.

Subject matter aside, it was a beautiful film, immersive and deep. If the viewpoint it presents is wrong, it's still well-done and shot with great care. It clearly deserves a couple Oscar nominations on its own merit.

Saw Django last night, I loved it! Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz were so badass. I'm going to make a time machine now and become a bounty hunter in the 1800s, bye guys.

Dear Treehousers,
If my calculations are correct, you will receive this letter immediately after you open the Film thread. First, let me assure you that I am alive and well. I've been living happily these past eight months in the year 1830.
I set myself up as a badass bounty hunter/slave saver. Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to come back here to get me. I am perfectly happy being all awesome here and stuff. And please take care of Spencer for me. I know that you will give him a good home. Remember to walk him twice a day, play fetch with him, and that he only likes canned dog food. These are my wishes; please respect them and follow them.
And so Treehousers, I now say farewell and wish you Godspeed. You've been good, kind, and loyal friends to me. You've made a real difference in my life. I will always treasure our relationship and think on you all with fond memories, warm feelings, and a special place in my heart.
Your friend in time,
"Doc" Tasha the Panda
October 17th, 1830.

You shout exactly that in your living room? My name included? I feel honoured. Or disgusted. I remain unsure.

The Search For Spock was a weird-ass movie.

I saw the remake of True Grit a little while ago.

I'm going to make it a point to add "fill your hand you son of a bitch!" to my list of things to say to an adversary in case I find myself in a life or death showdown.

True Grit was a damn fine movie.
I think Matt Damon was pretty good in it, which is odd, because out of all the other films I've seen him in, I've been unimpressed.
