Yes please.

MobiPocket. I don't know if there are better ones out there but this one is one of the easiest to use without all the extra frills. You'd have to buy or download books separately, finding websites to legally download free ebooks is pretty simple though.

I can't read literature on a screen. I have to have a paper copy. I'm just weird like that.

My mum asked me if I wanted a Kindle once, but I politely declined on the grounds I had more than enough paper books to get through.

Finished Eye of the World, really liked it. Very classic fantasy with a distinct LotR feel of grandioseness in the storytelling and the evil 'Imprisoned Dark Lord' antagonist, but it really fits in the genre rather than feeling like a rip-off. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Did you ever find a copy of this? I've got 6 of those .jpg/.rar files and 5 of them are corrupt and the other one extracted some sort of weird Asian punishment porn flash.

Just about to start reading A Song Of Ice And Fire or maybe the Barsoom books ohhh decisions

i'm reading discworld
i think its best if you read "the color of magic" and "the light fantastic" first mostly because if discworld had a main character, it would be rincewind. and i'm pretty certain that although you can read the books in whatever order you like, those two books occur before all the others.
other than that the order really doesn't matter, rincewind doesn't appear in many of the other books. and he's not a main character anymore. but he appears sort of like stan lee in a marvel movie, he's there he says a few lines, and the worst wizard in the history of time itself gets fanservice. lol

The book explores a dystopian United States where many of society's most productive citizens refuse to be exploited by increasing taxation and government regulations and disappear, shutting down their vital industries. The disappearances evoke the imagery of what would happen if the mythological Atlas refused to continue to hold up the sky
It sounds soooo good
I really want it to be good
But majority has voiced it otherwise?
If anyone has read any portion of it can they explain why it gets panned so much?

It espouses libertarian/right-wing views. Also, Ayn Rand gets REALLY preachy and long-winded at times. [    ]

I think it's mostly because not a lot of people agree with Ayn Rand and the whole Objectivism thing.

Most books on controversial topics get that treatment yeah
I guess what I'm asking is was it well written and thought out
Or was it just an angry woman preaching her ideas and calling everyone else sheeple

I mean it is the kind of book where you get wrapped up in the plot. The characters are a bit idealized, but I think that was the intent. They're not characters in their own right so much as ideas, archetypes. But yes, there are long segments that you just want to skim over because it's a lot of expounding. [ ]

Isn't the example trope for Author Self-filibuster on TVTropes a quote from the end of Atlas Shrugged?

SQUIGGLES wrote:What's the default voice you guys read in?
Default the best can describe is this young roguish type guy who is very sure of himself as he reads. If I can form some voice for the characters in my book I will pen that voice to them though, and when I'm not concentrating or am simply tired it will just be my normal voice.

And when reading forum posts, if I heard the user talk before, I will always read their posts in their voice.

Does anyone know or have a guess at what forms inner reading voices like that? As in what determines what our (made up)  inner monologue voices sound like.

My reading voice is always a slightly older British man, like he's reading it to me. Maybe Stephen Fry? Maybe Sir Ian Mckellen? Sir Patrick Stewart? Or some random voice? I think it's a combination of several voices, it's not really a defined one. The narrator's voice is that in any case, when someone else is talking in the book, I just read it how I imagine they'd sound like.
