I was quite a fan of this thread last time, so let's get it going again!

Very simple little game, simply say what you think of the song posted above, then link a song (i.e. on youtube) that you want to poster below you to review!

I'll start this of with a favorite of mine, Aphex Twin's Alberto Balslm:

its good. a classic aphex twin mix of beats and off beats that give it a slightly strange sound. its unusually upbeat for Aphex but it is a nice change in pace than the "come to daddy" or "rubber johnny" that most ppl know.

massive attack is great

So calming and serene. I used it as background music as i was browsing the forum. Made me sleepy though, time to wake up again.

Saxon. (I'll be seeing them live in a few days! *happyface*)

Kinda like a slowed down version of Dragonquest... In terms of lyrics and musical style. =) Gloriously cheesy!

Here's something I really like... a real ambient masterpiece by Arovane!

Nice and calm, perfect for background music

EDIT: It's meant to be ironical

Very fun and jumpy in a sort of kill-the-poor kind of a way. Never really got into punk but might give it a bit more of a look.

This is my first video posting. It's possible it'll all go tits up.

Ode to LRC, eh? I could relate to that, as someone who has wasted a lot of time in the "LRC" (That's what the IT room at my school is called) Heheheh....

Here's a real acid techno thumper from Ceephax Acid Crew... Acid breezer!

Quite relaxing. I heard good things about Band of Horses and the song is pretty nice. Personally, i'd be able to enjoy it if it came on the radio, but not as part of my playlist on my laptop.

i was going to put ACDC on here next, because i just managed to play Highway to Hell on my guitar, but i decided to put up a lesser known band instead. I warn everyone for this next one though, because only few people i've met actually like this sort of music. I won't blame you if you don't finish the whole thing.

*edit* Damn, still got ninja'ed somehow.

I'll just do that one too then, I'm not into techno unless i'm really drunk. It's too repetitive for me, and i'm not a fan of music without singing in general. (Except for Apocalyptica, they're awesome.)

This is one of the most awesome covers in the world:

Heheh, I'm quite the opposite. The music I listen to is almost exclusively instrumental.

I'll do the second one, as I like Iron Maiden! I'm not generally into rock, but I really like their back-to-basic, arena rock styling. =) This one's no different... but I think running free is their best song stilll!

Soo... here's something with vocals that I do actually like, more Massive Attack!

Appologizes if it's not available in your region or something

Love the song, love the video. Reminds me of leaving primary school and
realising there was more to music that hymns and the Spice Girls

What a trendy thread.

I like your video Angua, I also like the paper cutout type feel the video has. I'll admit I wanted to dress in military garb and march down my street after listening and watching this. Which is odd because the song itself is so damn bouncy!

I want to explain something about the video first. It's not about a man loosing his wife and son to another man. You really got to listen to the lyrics to understand the story, and it's painfully sad once you realize it.

Tacoline

Tacoline

the old man is thinking about what could have been, correct? what took his son and wife was time and the fact that he didn't take the chance he was given.
very deep.
and strangely bouncy like you said.

i'm going to follow suit and post music from little known artists (mostly)
this is a sample of roger Subirana's work, its hard to pick a song of his because they are quite diverse from techno to tribal to classical sounding. this one is kinda creepy in the beginning but it characteristically changes to upbeat at the end.

Angua

Angua

Damn it Taco, that song made me really motivated to do work. I end up
really enjoying classical/instrumental songs but never really know where
to start with what to listen to and end up listening to the best of
John Williams (nothing like trying to write a report while humming the
Star Wars theme)

So yes. Liked it a lot.

Nice depressing ring to it. It was alright.

Ok guys, be SERIOUS in your review, Do you actually like the song?

I honestly like this song. The fact he is so earnest in his love towards this girl and the fact that he presents his emotions so effectively makes the song and video enjoyable to watch, and it helps that random flips and bad dancing is involved. But, if it wasn't a meme, I doubt the song would have gotten much popularity, seeing how there's nothing in it that makes it really stand out on its own. The fact that it's popular is only because it's seen a joke, so while the song is good, is sadly doesn't get the attention and praise I think it'd deserve.

(Taco - You're correct, the man lost his wife and son to time, and he lost his love for God. Now he literally has nothing else to lose, so he's no longer afraid of life).

I REALLY like Owl City, haven't gotten around to listening to the whole album, which is shameful. But yes. I like this.

Oh We'd all like it if Mr Astley had not had the recognition he deserved...or would we????

The song was a worldwide number-one hit, initially in the singer's
native United Kingdom in 1987, where it stayed at number one for five weeks
and was the best-selling single of that year.
The song won Best British Single at the 1988 Brit
Awards

In the spirit of Rick Astley....

Well of course it's a popular song now but that's only because it's used as a troll method. Of course he has a fanbase, but you have to admit that most likely those youtube views and his publicity comes from people being tricked and the attention that comes from such ruses. I'm just saying, I bet his songs wouldn't be as popular as they are now if he wasn't a meme.

Angua

Angua

Aaah, I get you. True. I knew of the song before it's meme-hood but that's probably because of my then-love of the Waterman era (if you like good old never gonna give you up, you should try some old school Kylie Minogue)

....The song I posted is his brand new single fyi. I'm not Rick rolling you. Honest. Unless you consider his new song a rock roll!

Haha, middle aged Astley is funny. =) I'm affraid I just can't take Astley even remotely seriously now, so I believe this was completely the wrong kinda song for him to do. He should have done something really campy and silly, tbh. That's how people think of him as. He's never going to be able to escape that image, he should just get used to it!

This next one is something of an aquired taste, here's Autechre's 'Foil'.

seems to be accompined by some kinda trippy video, haven't watch that!

The video is breathtaking and very unsettling, but the music isn't very colorful. I guess it is an acquired taste, but that sort of "alienative" style just doesn't appeal to me.

Nitehoot

Nitehoot

Is this.... J-pop? I could never get into Jpop. Always found it too cheesy... and incomprehensible. =o I guess I'm just not an otaku. Seems we have fairly standard trance production values here...with vampires. Heheh. I don't get it. o_o

Now for something funky!

i like it, but not enough to download it. i did watch it all the way through to see the end of the story. kinda like the matrix i think.

this is professor kliq, another little known artist who's music u can download for free. (i've done it it's safe) they dont have alot of his stuff on ytube so i couldn't get the song i wanted but that's ok.

Nitehoot

Nitehoot

It's gotta kinda 90s big-beat feel to it... It only really starts getting interesting about half way through though. I think this could actually be way better if this was sped up by 20bpm or so. It'd be cool to dance to then! Otherwise... it's a bit too plodding and repetitive, imo. I may well put it in Acid Pro and try that actually =)

Speaking of big beat.... Here's a classic!

Is this some hippity hoppity music you whippersnappers listen to? LMAO. I love that episode of Tom and Jerry. The video was amusing to watch and I actually liked the song despite not liking most of Fatboy Slim's music. Now get off my lawn.

Everyone should know this one;

Nitehoot

Nitehoot

Oh come, I don't even have to watch the video to review this. Classic piece of prog rock, which is the best kind of rock. =) I love its movement structure, always nice to see songs that use that. The vocal harmonies are equisite, the lyrics spontaneous and interesting, yadayada everyone knows this song and it's a landmark in musical recording

And yeah, the problem with Fatboy Slim is that his cuts are offten too long for the material he has... things end up getting rather repetitive. I think he just about manages to avert that with Ya Mama. =)

Now when ambient meets glitch...
