THIS ALBUM

I can't remember if I've ever posted this before, but this album is one of my favorite of all time, right up there with Illinoise. I posted that one, right?

I have about 5 songs from that album, I used to be into that kind of music more like 2 years back.
I just noticed you posted "Jesus, etc." a while back; my favourite song from the album.

In the Indie genre, I quite like the English band The Hoosiers.
I like this song in particular, partly because of the lyrics (and it's also fun to sing, though I don't dare to check what I sound like when doing so).
Goodbye Mr. A

This one also a good one from them; softer and still and sing-along-able:
Money to be made

God damn it, I forget to reply in here constantly
Cube - I really dig that music, can you post the other album anyway? I can't seem to find it in the hundred some posts of videos

Tasha - I haven't heard of the Hoosiers before but they look very vintage 60's. The videos won't seem to load for me right now but I will give them a listen later. What are they mostly on about?

There's no longer a single video for the whole album, but here's a playlist of it. Best song is either Chicago or Come on! Feel the Illinoise!

Okay I'm posting more indie shit cause I just found this guy and he's awesome.

Dr. Dog

This song's like Jonny Cash mixed with, I don't know, Fiest maybe? Maybe 2 bits of Mumford and Sons?

This just gets me, completely, especially the spoken word poem at the end.

According to Covers Project "Eye of the Tiger," from the Survivor album "Eye of the Tiger", was covered on the Green Day album "Gilman Street Block Party: Double 7" Live @ Gilman St." It doesn't say when but I hope that helps!

I really thought I had more acoustic songs on my computer but apparently I only have five with "(acoustic)" in the title

This isn't a fantastic song because Marilyn Manson can't sing for peanuts but it's interesting when you compare it to his other stuff

and this song was acoustic last time I listened to it

ALSO THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS
they reunited recently to put together some new tracks
https://soundcloud.com/capturedtracks/sets/medicine-to-the-happy-few
totally killer
It's classic 90s shoegaze/alternative with some great modern mixing
It's if all their old work was refined and not recorded through the cheapest microphone ever
It's the clearest shoegaze I have ever heard

So let's get a musical discussion going. Why is there this resurgence of fuzz rock or shoegaze? Personally I think it is partially from nostalgia. The sound imitates older times, the hiss of a needle on vinyl, the poor quality of an 8track. More than that I find it's because a lower quality track allows the listener to fill in half heard notes with their own preference. It's musical impressionism. It isn't exact, it isn't precise. It doesn't have the clarity of a beautiful opera singer. It instead is reduced to the core of what the music is, plus enough haze and noise around it so that you hear it as if it were fully formed.

But I think I'm tripping balls right now.

I don't really believe the nostalgia factor is very big but I think you're spot in with "musical impressionism" there; that's a very accurate idea, I reckon. That's not all the appeal of fuzz or shoegaze but that's definitely something I think is a big part. It's a lot about the sensation of the vibrations, throughout your body, from the music too -particularly ears and feet; I haven't been to a shoegaze concert but the huge speakers rocking that shit would be immensely touching. The volume on this track should be normal but just in case turn it down a lttle: check out this one The Pink - Medicine and focus on the tingling in your ears from that guitar and the keyboard in the background. There's not a lot of other music that's so physical. I don't think that's particularly contributed to the revival but it's got a lot to do with why I like shoegaze.

How have people been identifying resurgences in particular music trends? It seems like almost every genre has had a revival this decade and a half, with the real advent of the Internet- this is a musical Renaissance from where I've been seeing it.

There's a subnormality about the growth of music from the 50s to today. A lot of it is shit, but there is something that I think rings true. He drew the musical bandwagon from the 50s today, growing from 3 people in 1950 to so many that they're falling off it today. This was meant as a dig at modern pop music, but really it speaks for your idea of the "Musical Renaissance." So many people now are making music that genres can be explored in full. There's a subgenre for music that sound like it came out of the ass end of a VCR. There's a subgenre for music that's nothing but bleeps and bloops from old video game consoles. There's a subgenre for everything.

There's no common trend due to this. Alt music is moving into a resurgence of 70's drug rock with bands like Tame Impala. Alt music is also moving into a more pop music direction with bands like Bastille. Alt music is even moving towards peppy feel good stuff with Matt & Kim. Alt music is a clusterfuck.

Music is a hydra and we have begun cutting off heads.

Shit I have no idea what I just wrote.

I don't have anything new to add, but the nostalgia factor might apply somewhat to those wishing for simpler times and given enough time any genre will see its resurrection again - there's also the very romantic view on older 'needle-on-record' styled music, probably made stronger from games like Bioshock and Fallout. I like your idea on Music Impressionism, there's something very tender and poetic about the genres that I don't feel with the fake plastic 'autotune' music in popular media nowadays.

Oh I saw Tame Impala live, I think they supported Gyroscope who supported The Living End
They sounded really heavy and metal when I saw them but I know their music isn't like that, I will always wonder what songs were on their set that night

And now they're probably bigger and more popular than Gyroscope and The Living End even though they don't have as many releases, you shoulda seen how small they printed "Tame Impala" on the poster
Oh i have the poster somewhere actually

I have seen that Subnormality but not in a long time; if youve got a link then linky please
